The purpose of the LiveWell program is to educate the community and facilitate programming on a wide scope of health issues such as healthy eating, diabetes, stroke, and tobacco use. The program began in the spring of 2010 and has been very successful.Sequoyah Memorial feels privileged and obligated to provide such programming to the community.
As a whole, Sequoyah County is extremely unhealthy with 36% percent of the population reporting as overweight and 35% percent of the population reporting as obese.
The county also has an extremely high tobacco use rate with 30.5% of the population reporting using tobacco products. Stroke education and prevention has also become a high priority for Sequoyah Memorial. Arkansas ranks number one in the nation in the incidents of death from stroke, and as a region, Sequoyah County is lumped into that category because of our proximity to Arkansas. As the county's health leader, it is our goal, through the LiveWell program, to raise awareness and provide education about this potentially debilitating condition.
